(Founder of The Artemis Women in Action Film Festival, Producer & Actress in horror-action film, “Hanah’s Gift”)
Q: Which film do you love that might surprise people?
MW: Serenity. Should have been a huge hit. I LOVE Joss Whedon. Great cast with lots of differently strong women – not all of them kicked ass, but they were equal members of the team and equally invaluable.
Spy. I absolutely adore that fact that Paul Feig turned pretty much every female stereotype on its ear & did so with a very deft comedic hand and excellent direction.
Galaxy Quest – funny as hell and I love to laugh my ass off!
Q: If you could pair up any two actors/actresses, living or dead, which two would it be & what kind of film?
MW: Katharine Hepburn and George Clooney would have rocked a romantic comedy.
I think Denzel and Sandra Bullock would be great in a thriller, suspense, or comedy film!
For action, me and Arnold! 😀
Q: Which film has had the biggest impact on you personally, and why?
MW: There’s a ton of them. But if I have to pick one, V for Vendetta. Not only did it have a woman character who discovers she is not helpless in the world, but the whole movie was about personal empowerment against impossible odds. Great action, inspiring dialogue that forces one to look at some pretty transparent boxes we live in. Can’t beat that!
Q: If you could have one prop from any film what would it be?
MW: I would absolutely LOVE the M134 handheld mini-gun used in Predator by Jessie Ventura and Bill Duke!!! I want to mount that to the top of my Bronco for all the terrible Los Angeles drivers!!!
Q: Is there any subject matter which you would not make a film about?
MW: Anything that glorifies violence against weakness. I won’t do a movie where women are just weak things wringing their hands in fear, whining about how bad things are or hoping bad things go away and where the women need saving as well as the only men are cast as bad guys who hurt women. There are great men out there and strong independent women out there. Show more of both please!
