#DFNYFocus On: Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith – Screenwriter / Producer

(Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, The House Bunny)

Q:   Which film do you love that might surprise people?

KS: RED by Kieslowski.  Or maybe MELANCHOLIA.  Since I write comedy, people think that’s mainly what I’m into, but I actually enjoy crying at a movie more than laughing.
Q:   If you could pair up any two actors/actresses, living or dead, which two would it be & what kind of film?

KS: This is so hard.  Like impossible.  There are so many actresses I love and am obsessed with.  How about a caper comedy with Anna Faris and Carole Lombard as a pair of con artists?  I’d like to see that movie.

Q:  Which film has had the biggest impact on you personally, and why?

KS: MODERN GIRLS.  Watching those three characters have one crazy night out in Los Angeles where they bonded and had adventures and fell in love was the reason I moved here.

Q: If you could have one prop from any film what would it be?

KS: I would say the Maltese Falcon but I have an amazing edition by LA artist Alex Israel, so I’ll have to go with the red lips phone from Virginia Madsen’s bedroom in MODERN GIRLS. Or the gnome from AMELIE.

Q: Is there any subject matter which you would not make a film about?

KS: Serial killers.

#DFNYFocus is a new series from Daily Flick NY focusing on the personal film tastes of Screenwriters, Directors, Producers and other individuals working in the film industry
